The problem

A standard litter box needs scooping at least once a day to prevent odour and discourage the cat from avoiding it. For owners with more than one cat, or cats that are heavy users, scooping twice a day is realistic. It is one of the most consistent sources of friction in cat ownership — the task most likely to be delayed, which then creates odour problems.

What tends to help

The Catit SmartSift uses a sifting drawer system. A single pull separates clumped litter from clean, dropping waste into a sealed bag underneath. No separate scoop is needed. The hood contains odour better than an open tray, and the drawer system takes around fifteen seconds to operate.

A straight answer: Works best with clumping litter. Non-clumping litter does not separate properly in the sifting drawer and will fall through with the clean litter, defeating the purpose.

Does the Catit SmartSift work with any litter?

It works best with clumping clay or clumping silica litter. Non-clumping litter does not form solid clumps and will pass through the sifting tray with the clean litter — making the system ineffective.

Is this big enough for a large cat?

The standard size suits most cats up to medium-large. Very large cats, particularly Maine Coons or large males, may find the entry and interior restrictive. Check the dimensions against your cat's length before buying.
